about this museum
Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, opened in 2002, is the only museum in the Arab world devoted entirely to calligraphy, located in the historic house of Hamad Al Midfaa in the Heart of Sharjah. Set around a light-filled covered courtyard, the museum explores the evolution of Arabic calligraphy from early Kufic scripts to contemporary styles, showcasing masterpieces by local and international calligraphers on canvas, wood, paper and ceramic. The museum hosts regular exhibitions, workshops and conferences to celebrate this timeless Islamic art form, and is open Saturday to Thursday from 8am to 8pm and Fridays from 4pm to 8pm with admission at AED 10.
